These Country Singers’ Wives Aren’t the Perfect Southern Belles They Pretend To Be

Wed Dec 29 2021

Pop culture has given us a variety of wives. Look to any sport or any music genre and you’ll be sure to see a pattern: everyone has a type. From groupies to baby mamas, every guy across the entertainment industry has a sweet spot for a girl who loves to start some drama.

The wives of country singers often find themselves in hot water for their social media presence, outwardly obnoxious political statements, and of course, the products they push as influencers. These are just a few of the many crazy things that country wives find themselves constantly apologizing – or refusing to apologize – for.

Hannah Billingsley Mooney Was a Beauty Queen Who Found Her King

Shay Mooney, half of the Dan + Shay country music duo, found himself with an absolute dime on his arm. Mooney married Hannah Billingsley in October 2017 on his family’s farm property in Arkansas. The former Miss Arkansas met the country star through mutual friends and after some back and forth, he ended up taking her as his date to the Country Music Awards in 2015.

This pageant queen has a twist that none of us could have seen coming: she raised a small herd of cattle to put herself through college at the University of Arkansas. Unlike many of her other country-wife counterparts, Hannah Billingsley Mooney seems to have a good head on her shoulders, staying further away from drama and closer to simplicity.

Gabi Dugal McCreery Was Scotty McCreery’s Kindergarten Sweetheart

The American Idol winner met his perfect woman back when he was just a young boy. Scotty McCreery met his future wife, Gabi Dugal, in his kindergarten class. The two remained friendly through the years and started dating their senior year of high school. She divulged to Country Music Television that she used to keep a diary where she wrote “Mrs. Gabi McCreery” on the cover. Cute, right?

Unlike many other wives of country stars, Gabi Dugal McCreery is not very comfortable in the spotlight. This pediatric cardiac nurse is fine watching from the outside. “She’ll go to the red carpet with me, but she won’t do pictures, she’ll just kind of watch from a distance,” the singer said. “She tries to go to different shows with me. Day by day, she gets a little more into all this,” he added. “She told me the other day, ‘I can see myself moving to Nashville one day.’ I said, ‘I told you you’d love it.'”

Cassidy Black Inspired Dierks Bentley’s “Women, Amen”

Country star Dierks Bentley is married to the strong Cassidy Black Bentley and has been dedicating songs to her throughout the years. The two met back in their home state of Arizona when they were only in 8th grade. Though they dated on and off, they each followed their own paths before finding their way back to each other while he was on tour, opening for George Strait.

Though Cassidy’s definitely got the tacky parts of country-wifedom down (can you see that dress?), she’s kept a relatively low profile. She shows up for her hubby when he’s on tour, sometimes bringing their three kids along for the ride as well. Dierks knows he can’t do better than Cassidy.

Hannah Lee Fowler Took Some Convincing To Commit

Country star Sam Hunt married Hannah Lee Fowler after years of dating on and off. She was raised by a minister in a strong conservative Christian household in rural Georgia. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn that dating an athlete-turned-country star certainly unleashed a bit of a wild side for Fowler.

Unlike other country wives, Hannah Lee Fowler has kept a relatively low profile. She works as a nurse and is known as a fitness enthusiast, however, she tends to keep the details of her personal life relatively quiet. At least some of these wives manage to keep themselves out of the spotlight.

Norma Strait Sticks by Her Man, Even When She Shouldn’t

Norma Strait has been married to country legend, George Strait, for nearly half a century. Their 49-year marriage has been filled with ups and downs, and being married to a cowboy certainly came with its own quirks. Unfortunately, though, this couple had grown together through tragedy.

Back in 1986, George and Norma experienced a parent’s worst nightmare. Their daughter, Jennifer, died tragically in a car crash at just 13-years-old. Through thick and thin, this couple has stood the test of time. Even when Norma should have let George go after he was accused of sexual misconduct while on tour, she stuck by him and swore they would work through whatever they needed to work through.

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw Evolved Into the Ultimate Country Music Power Couple

There’s nothing this couple can’t do, it seems. They’ve been married since 1996 and have not only grown their family together, but they’ve also gone through hell and high water for each other. They’ve recorded songs, sold-out tours, and even raised three beautiful children together. However, Hill has had to hold McGraw together on more than one occasion.

Their two decades together have consisted of Tim’s very public struggles with addiction. Fortunately, McGraw credits Hill with helping him not only get sober but stay sober. “When your wife tells you it’s gone too far, that’s a big wake-up call. That, and realizing you’re gonna lose everything you have. Not monetarily, not career-wise, but family-wise,” McGraw told Men’s Health

Brittany Kerr Causes a Stir

Country legend Jason Aldean had been married to his high school sweetheart, Jessica, for more than a decade when he was caught out at a bar cheating with former NBA cheerleader, Brittany Kerr. After profusely apologizing to his wife, she filed for divorce and within a year, Kerr and Aldean were together in the public eye.

These two have frequently caused a ruckus in the public eye. Specifically, this couple has actively contributed to election fraud conspiracy theories and they’ve even posted photos and videos in support of groups storming the capitol building. Kerr, especially, is not willing to bite her tongue to make anyone happy, even if her views tick some people off along the way.

Did You Know That Gwen Stefani Is a Country Wife?

Pop legend Gwen Stefani tied the knot with country star Blake Shelton at his ranch in 2021. Recently, they spent their first Christmas together as an officially married couple, and they’re looking forward to spending many more together in the future. Shelton gave Stefani a rock that was so big and expensive that it was a whopping five times the prize pot for The Voice!

Stefani doesn’t quite fall under the same category as her other country-wife counterparts. She had already established herself before beginning her relationship in the public eye, so her fame wasn’t dependent on her husband. She’s really got her own thing going, but we really just wanted Gwen on this list.

Did Trisha Yearwood End Garth Brooks’s First Marriage?

Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks fell in love while he was married to his first wife. Just around a year into his first marriage to his college sweetheart, Sandy Mahl, Brooks met Yearwood and had an epiphany; “I felt that feeling like when you just meet your wife,” he told Ellen DeGeneres.

Despite starting his new marriage right before meeting his next soulmate, he kept trying at his first marriage, having three children with Mahl. Brooks and Mahl divorced in 2001, making way for Yearwood to scooch her way into Brooks’s life. The two got together instantly and were married in 2005. Was Yearwood aware that he had ended his marriage for her, or was she out there encouraging it?

Cassie McConnell Married Her Rockstar Before He Got Famous

Though Charles Kelley of country music trio Lady A found his forever lady in Cassie McConnell, he had his sights set on his band’s lead singer, Hillary Scott. Fortunately, he followed his gut and asked out his brother’s publicist, Cassie McConnell. He was smitten from the start and proposed to her on Christmas morning in 2008.

The two eloped in the Bahamas for a big fourth-of-July wedding celebration. However, not everything was sunshine and rainbows for these two. They actually broke up briefly before getting engaged, and when he reached out to talk to her, he didn’t just want to discuss getting back together… he was ready to propose to her. She said her heart was always with him, so the decision was a simple one to make.

Taylor Mills May Seem Perfect, But She’s Faced Heartbreak With Her Current Husband

Taylor Mills Young met her country rockstar husband when she was a student at Arizona State University. The two met through a group of friends and had taken a few months before they actually started dating. After graduation, she decided to move back to Orange County, California and even though he wanted things to work out with her, their relationship began to crumble with long distance.

She was heartbroken when he decided to move to Nashville, leaving her behind for almost two years before they finally got back together. They ended up having a secret wedding before their big “official” ceremony months later. Her marriage to Brett Young has managed to stay private overall.

Allison Demarcus Became a Country Wife Before Becoming a Reality Star

Before she was Allison DeMarcus, country wife, she was Allison Alderson, Miss Tennessee. She had a life as a Miss USA pageant contestant before she became the wife of Rascal Flatts bassist, Jay DeMarcus. She still manages to maintain her pageant queen hotness after delivering two children. She’s been through it all.

Allison DeMarcus is so much more than just the wife of a country musician. She works for People Magazine and Country Music Television as a correspondent and host. The Rhodes College graduate was at the top of her class, studying finance. She’s used her brains and wit to keep her family in line.

Amber Bartlett Smith Felt Backlash After Welcoming a New Child

Amber Bartlett Smith and her husband, country star Granger Smith, found themselves under fire not long after dealing with an intense tragedy. The couple had tragically lost their toddler son, River Kelly, in a drowning accident in 2019. As if that wasn’t hard enough on its own, the couple had to deal with unnecessary accusations from folks on the outside.

She and her husband were accused of replacing their late son with a new baby not long after; seriously, what kind of person has the nerve to say that kind of thing? There are no “rules” saying that a family isn’t allowed to keep growing after the loss of a child. She turned to Instagram to ask people to “think before speaking your opinions,” writing “I never like to give these people more attention than they deserve, but it’s a reminder that we live in a dark world, where people judge one another and say the most hurtful, cruel things.”

Tiffany Fallon Joined the Ranks as Another Pageant Queen in Rascal Flatts’ Wife Roster

The men of Rascal Flatts seem to have a type themselves: beauty queens. Joe Don Rooney met his wife, Miss Georgia 2001, through his bandmate’s girlfriend-turned-wife, Allison Alderson DeMarcus. DeMarcus and Tiffany Fallon knew each other from their pageant days and Allison somehow knew this was a match made in heaven.

Unlike many others on this list, Fallon is a bit more risque than the others. She posed for Playboy not long after gaining her title. She also appeared in Toby Keith’s video for “Who’s Your Daddy,” where Rooney spotted his wife for the first time.

Lauren Gregory Akins Was Granted the Ultimate Country Love Story, Down To Help From Her Daddy To Make It Happen

Country star Thomas Rhett found the love of his life, Lauren, when they were only in first grade. The two were classmates in Valdosta, Georgia when they were young and went on to become high school sweethearts. Though their teenage love story didn’t last at the time, the two remained close friends. One day, Thomas received a call from none other than Lauren’s dad, that set him straight.

Rhett told CBS, “Her dad called me and said, ‘If you don’t come over here tonight and tell Lauren how you feel about her, then I’m going to tell her how you feel about her.'” Thankfully, he took the hint and started his relationship with her again. Within six months, they were engaged, and they’ve never looked back since.

Katelyn Jae Brown Was Attached at the Hip to Her Man, Instantly

Katelyn Jae met musician Kane Brown after she finished up her studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. She wanted to break into the music business and moved to Orlando, Florida in the hopes of getting started. Little did she know, she would meet her husband there.

Once the two met, their connection was instant. These two could barely keep their hands off each other, and it shows. They’ve been attached at the hip since meeting and have since welcomed a baby daughter. It all started with Kane messaging her on Instagram, and the rest is history.

Caroline Boyer Bryant Was Overwhelmed By Luke Bryan’s Big Personality

How can a love story that starts at a bar called Dingus fail? For realsies, though, these two met during the beginning of their college careers at a bar and she was so overwhelmed, she didn’t know what to make of anything. “It was Thursday night. I was a freshman. It was my first time in a bar. I was so sheltered growing up in a very small town and I’d had the same boyfriend since 8th grade,” she said.

She continued, “Luke’s personality was so big, I was staring at him like, ‘Is this guy for real?’ He was the second guy I ever kissed in my life. Ever.” The two dated for a year before she initially freaked out thinking about the future, but rekindled four years later after they locked eyes again at his show. More than 15 years later, they seem to be going strong.

Brittney Kelley Loves to Start Drama

Brittney Kelley was a psychology student at the University of Georgia when she met Florida Georgia Line band member Brian Kelley. She was swept off her feet instantly and the two have been living together in harmony since tying the knot in 2013. However, much like another Brittney on this list, Brittney Kelley and her husband have found themselves in hot water time and time again.

Brittney Kelley, a businesswoman who runs a brand of leisurewear called Tribe Kelley, is politically outspoken. When she and her husband posted comments on their Instagram stories calling the 2020 election results a “total sh*t show,” it prompted other Florida Georgia Line band members and their wives to go as far as unfollowing them on social media. What a trip that must have been.

Hayley Stommel Hubbard Wasn’t Going to Let Another FGL Wife Give Them All Bad Names

Can you imagine hearing that your husband’s friend’s wife was saying rude things and that you were going to be held accountable for it? Nope, that wouldn’t be ok in the slightest. It turns out Hayley Stommel Hubbard was not going to sit idly by while Brittney Kerr and her husband made a big deal over the 2021 election.

Hayley Hubbard and her husband got salty AF when Brittney started posting conspiracy theories, so she decided to throw the most shade she could by unfollowing both parties. Talk about sticking up for your beliefs; Hayley did not want to be part of whatever Brittney was pushing.

Kelly Cashiola Met Her Soulmate When She Was Young

So many of the couples on this list got together at a young age. Or, at the very least, they crossed paths at one point or another in their childhood. Well, Lady A’s Dave Haywood met his future wife, Kelly Cashiola, when he was just a kid. However, the two didn’t form their relationship until years later.

Kelly and Dave reconnected when she was working at Universal Music Group as an executive in Nashville, Tennessee. Since they knew each other very well, they were able to progress in their relationship very quickly, getting engaged within the year. Unlike many other country wives, she certainly didn’t need her husband’s fame to help her gain her own success.

Kate Moore Met Her Country Rocker Husband While on Spring Break

Justin and Kate Moore met as teenagers on Spring Break in Panama City Beach, Florida. The two were drawn to each other’s aura when they found themselves taking care of their drunken friends instead of letting loose themselves. They knew they were drawn together for a reason.

She supposedly wore a black and white floral dress that her husband is still obsessed with to this day. He loves it so much, he won’t let her get rid of it all these years later! The two did deal with some drama on their wedding day, though; Justin was so nervous about the wedding that he drunkenly let their dogs out of the house… and spent the whole day of their wedding looking for the dogs. That’s not a great way to kick things off with your lady.

Eric Paslay Said He Would Be a Fool to Let Natalie Harker Go

The Friday Night singer was friends with his lady, Natalie Harker, for a solid 7 years before they even started dating. The two dated one another two years before getting engaged, and luckily he saw what was so special about her. He knew she was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with and that he would be a fool to let her get away.

Unlike many of her country-wife counterparts, there is little-to-no public information available about her. She’s done a dang good job at keeping her life under wraps and staying out of the public eye. We love a mysterious lady that keeps us curious.

Abby Law Smyers Became an Influencer

Dan Smyers, one half of the country duo Dan + Shay, married the love of his life, Abby Law. The two had dated for almost four years before getting engaged on a holiday in Hawaii. “It’ll be nice to make it official. Everybody’s story is different, everybody’s timeline is different but by the time we got engaged, we were so familiar with each other that there wasn’t anything foreign or scary,” Smyers said.

Though she had her own successful career, Abby quit her own “stable job” (her words, exactly) in pursuit of supporting her husband’s career full time. Naturally, like everyone else riding on her famous husband’s coattails, she’s making a name for herself as none other but an Instagram brand influencer. OF COURSE, SHE IS.

Chris and Morgane Stapleton Thrive Together

This Nashville-based country rockstar and his wife Morgane have managed to keep their private life exactly that: private. These two have been together for years and maybe it’s their commitment to privacy that has made them last through the ages.

The two met in 2003 when they were both working in Nashville as songwriters. They’ve been through a lot together, and time in quarantine only made them stronger as a family. “The silver lining and the mixed blessing during the pandemic for me is I’ve gotten to spend more time being a dad and being with my children than I’ve ever gotten to do certainly as a touring musician,” Stapleton shared.

Tatiana Houser Hit the Southern Jackpot

Tatiana Houser is another one of the lucky Aussies that managed to snag the country gal’s jackpot. This Australia native connected with her roots in Australia’s countryside when she married country star Randy Houser. The two have some gorgeous kids together.

Randy was previously married and had a son from his first marriage, but it didn’t take long for the couple to throw themselves into the mix with their own children joining the picture. These two have been radiating nothing but happiness since they got together.

Lee Ann Rimes and Eddie Cibrian Met on Set

We knew Lee Ann Rimes’ husband, Eddie Cibrian, looked familiar. He’s an actor that has made cameos across Hollywood, from Ugly Betty to Sabrina the Teenage Witch to Best Man Holiday. The “Can’t Fight the Moonlight’ singer and her husband met on the set of Lifetime’s Northern Lights.

Both Rimes and Cibrian were previously married to other people. He had children from his last marriage to Brandi Glanville from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. His two sons from the previous marriage seem to really love their stepmom, Lee Ann, even if she maybe was the reason why his parents broke up initially.

Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black Met His Wife and Her Mom at the Same Time

This couple knew it was game over when they first locked eyes with each other. The two met when Lisa showed up to one of Clint’s concerts. The two were nearly inseparable from the moment they met; she was under his spell after hearing him play for the first time.

Lisa and her mother attended one of Clint’s New Year’s Eve concerts and was blown away. The two met that night and were married in 1991. Now, they share a daughter that they have watched grow and blossom into a wonderful woman. Time flies when you’re having fun together.

Carrie Underwood’s Husband, Mike Fisher, Was a Fan of Hers

Carrie Underwood met her husband, Hockey player Mike Fisher, at one of her country concerts in 2008. The two knew the attraction was instant, and they soon started dating. They tied to knot in 2010 after dating for a couple of years, and have since started their family.

As far as we can tell, their marriage seems to be going well; or, at least well enough that she hasn’t had to write any songs that send the same message as “Before He Cheats.” If that song said anything about what this crazy country singer would do if you let her down… he’s been warned.

Reba McEntire Dropped Her Husband Minutes Before We Dropped This Article

Reba McEntire was married to her husband, Narvel Blackstock, for more than 20 years when he dropped the divorce in her lap. Seriously; this was so recent that we felt it was necessary to keep this in the article. McEntire didn’t want to break up initially. “The divorce was not my idea. I didn’t want it in any shape, form or fashion,” she told CMT.

“So it was really hard to make the adjustment when someone’s not happy. I just want everybody to be happy in their lives because our lives are too short to be miserable.” She also shared, “I just thought it was the best thing to take my marbles and go play somewhere else, is what daddy used to always say.”

Brad Paisley’s Wife Kimberly Still Likes Him After Quarantine

Much to country star Brad Paisley’s surprise, his wife and kids were not entirely sick of him after the initial COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. At least, that’s what he told the team over at The Today Show. The two spent time together with the rest of their family that they don’t usually get to spend together.

The two have welcomed children into their lives and surprisingly, not a ton of drama. However, both of them made a major mistake during the q. Kimberley let her husband dye her hair in quarantine! He thinks he ruined his image, we think he’s gonna pay for a bad hair dye job later.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban Redefine “Typical Country Couple”

Nicole Kidman isn’t the only country wife from “down unda”, but it seems like they’re one of the only couples that both originated down there. Kidman hails from Australia, while her country rocker husband Keith Urban’s origin story starts in New Zealand.

Both of them are bonded not only by their love for one another but by another big secret that was only recently revealed. The secret? Neither one of them finished high school. Yet, they both managed to soar their careers to extremely successful heights.

Jennifer Nettles Took the Lead In Her Marriage

Sugarland star Jennifer Nettles found the love of her life, Justin Miller. Before Miller, Nettles was married from 1997 to 2007 to Todd Van Sickle, who previously owned Eddie’s Attic, a well-known music venue in Decatur, Georgia. She found her prince charming not long after that marriage ended.

The two met when the former model, Miller, appeared as Nettles’ love interest in one of her music videos. They shared a bed together during the shoot but didn’t start dating for a couple of years. Luckily, these cuties knew their connection could not be ignored.

Hillary Scott Reunited With Her Ultimate Love

Country singer Hillary Scott met her husband, Chris Tyrell, met when they were in college. The two reconnected later when Chris was playing with a band called Love and Theft. Since then, the two had joined musical forces in the country group Lady A.

Hillary Scott was the apple of many of her bandmate’s eyes. Before she and Tyrell got together, another one of her bandmates was trying to court her. She knew where her heart belonged, though, and married the man of her dreams. The two have even started a beautiful family together.

Gary and Tara LeVox Have Been Married For Two Decades

This happy country couple has been married since 1999, making their marriage last more than 20 years at this point in time. The two met backstage at a show in Decatur, Alabama. Gary was singing backup for a gospel artist and the two crossed paths at the gig.

The two channeled energy from Gary’s father when they began raising their children together. His dad was his coach and introduced him to many of his greatest passions in life. He credits his father with the way he structured his family, and his wife seemed to be on board.

Karen Fairchild and Jimi Westbrook Turned Their Musical Relationship Up a Notch

Jimi and Karen found love in their musical group. The two connected when they were in the same band, Little Big Town. Despite the fame they found from their musical career, they married quietly in a secret ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee.

The two had kept their marriage so secret that most of the public didn’t know they were hitched until a full two months after the ceremony. The two welcomed their baby son Elijah in 2006, and the family has been living happily ever after since.

Martina McBride Is Her Own Country Queen

Martina McBride found her prince charming and never let go. Martina met John and was swept away by his charm. They’ve been married since 1988 with no sign of slowing down. These two were made for each other and built a beautiful family together.

The two have three beautiful children together. He was her sound engineer before she really took off, and when the two were wed, she took his married name as her stage name. Their three daughters lived together in bliss while their parents exhibited a strong marriage.

Shania Twain and Frédéric Thiébaud are Canada’s Country Couple

Canada’s sweetheart, country queen Shania Twain, is far from a drama starter. She was previously married to another man before tying the knot with her current husband in Puerto Rico on New Year’s Day in 2011. The two made their nuptials special in their own way.

Twain was led down the aisle at her wedding by her son Eja. The little boy was conceived in her previous marriage to Robert “Mutt” Lange. The little guy seems to be ok with his mom’s new husband, especially after all this time.

Locash’s Preston Brust Married Sass Queen Kristen

Country music band Locash is for lovers, or at least that’s how things seem on our end. Musician Preston Brust fell head over heels for Kristen White, and the two have been inseparable since they met. The two are now proud parents to three gorgeous children

They spend their days riding horses and jamming out. They have since had another child that only made them love their little family even more. Kristen White Brust met her Locash match as a simple twist of fate and her life had changed forever, for the better.
